House of the Red Fish

In 1943 on the island of Oahu, Tomi Nakaji’s father is imprisoned and his grandfather is taken away. All people of Japanese descent are suspect and placed under a nightly curfew. To keep hope alive, Tomi decides to raise Papa’s fishing boat that had been sunk by the army. The nearly impossible task is accomplished through Tomi's determination, perseverance, and ingenious approaches to the problem. Along with Tomi's best friend, Billy, who is a haole (white), other Hawaiian friends and many of their family members, the boat is successfully raised. This well-balanced novel brings the historical period and realistic characters to life.

We think the author named this book "House of the red Fish" because, the grandfather who was inprisoned liked to fish and his son raised his boat out of the water after the army sunk it.

I think the author titled the book because,
it had to do with the ocean,
the main character Tomi Nakaji's goal is to
raise his family's boat out of the water that has been sunk :'[
Tommy & His Hawiian Friends succeeded.
& got the boat that had sunk out of the water.

The house of the Red Fish

I think the author titled this story the way it is, is because they want to raise Papa's fishing boat, and that has to do with fishing.

The reason the book is called House of the Red Fish is because of the red paper koi fish Tomi's mother hung on the house.
